High Holidays Ticket Information
Heichal Baoranim does not distribute tickets for the High Holy Days.  If you are not a member of Heichal Baoranim and would like to attend services, please let our Temple Coordinator, Rachel Sturm, know via e-mail or by telephone.  If you are a member of Heichal Baoranim and would like friends and family to attend services with you, please also let Rachel Sturm know via e-mail or telephone.

We ask that non-members pick up a donation envelope at the door on the day that they attend services, and mail a check to Heichal Baoranim at their convenience.  The suggested donation for non-members for High Holy Days Services is $125 per person or $200 per family.

High Holiday Honors
High Holiday Honors have been offered by the Ritual Committee and will be given to selected individuals before each service.  Heichal Baoranim proudly continues its tradition of honoring both those who contribute their time and services to the community, and those whose extra generosity helps to sustain our wonderful community.

Overflow Parking
During business hours, please park on North Patterson Boulevard instead of across the street from the Synagogue where our business neighbors have rather limited parking.  You may also park in the parking lot on Seventh Avenue where the Big Lots is located.  Thank you.

Child Care
We will be offering babysitting on the first morning of Rosh Hashanah and during the Yom Kippur morning service.

Maura's Challah
Take 1 teaspoon powdered yeast (at room temperature), place it in a small glass dish with 1 teaspoon sugar and 1/4 cup warm water.  The yeast will bubble and puff up.  Let it sit for about 15 minutes to 1/2 hour.

While the yeast is rising, take approximately 5 cups of bread flour and a large pinch of salt, sift together into a large bowl.  Add the yeast mixture to the flour.  Take 2 eggs that are at room temperature and beat them slightly in a separate bowl.  Add the slightly beaten eggs to the flour.  Add 2 to 3 tablespoons vegetable or corn oil to the mixture, and then with the same measuring spoon, add 2 to 3 tablespoons of honey.  Mix all ingredients together with a spoon.  Slowly add warm water into the mixture -- up to 1 cup -- until the dough sticks together.  Knead the dough well (do not use flour on the surface that you are kneading the dough on).  Place in a pottery or glass dish and cover with a towel.  Leave the dough to rise for about 2-3 hours (until it doubles in size).

Knead the dough again and then put the dough back in the bowl and let it rise for another 1-2 hours.  Knead the dough once more and braid, or for Rosh Hashanah, roll the dough into 1 long piece, like a snake, and twist it around itself to make a round Challah.  Place on an un-greased regular or nonstick cookie sheet and let the braided dough rise (covered with a towel) for another 1-2 hours.  'Paint' (as my girls call it) with 1 egg yolk and 1 teaspoon water mixed together.  Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.

It may take a few tries to get this right;  I know it took me a couple of times.  Good luck and enjoy!!!
