Ticket Information This year, Heichal Baoranim will be sending High Holy Days tickets via e-mail rather than by regular mail. The schedule that you receive by e-mail will serve as your ticket. Please print out the schedule and bring it with you to services. If you do not receive HB e-mail, please call Temple Coordinator Bonnie Vagen at 928-779-2990 between the hours of 9am and 5pm, and she will send you your schedule in the mail. If you would like friends and family to attend services with you, please ask them to pick up a donation envelope at the door on the day that they attend services, and mail a check to Heichal Baoranim at their convenience. The suggested donation for non-members for High Holy Days Services is $125 per person High Holiday Honors

Maura's Challah While the yeast is rising, take approximately 5 cups of bread flour and a large pinch of salt, sift together into a large bowl. Add the yeast mixture to the flour. Take 2 eggs that are at room temperature and beat them slightly in a separate bowl. Add the slightly beaten eggs to the flour. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons vegetable or corn oil to the mixture, and then with the same measuring spoon, add 2 to 3 tablespoons of honey. Mix all ingredients together with a spoon. Slowly add warm water into the mixture -- up to 1 cup -- until the dough sticks together. Knead the dough well (do not use flour on the surface that you are kneading the dough on). Place in a pottery or glass dish and cover with a towel. Leave the dough to rise for about 2-3 hours (until it doubles in size). Knead the dough again and then put the dough back in the bowl and let it rise for another 1-2 hours. Knead the dough once more and braid, or for Rosh Hashanah, roll the dough into 1 long piece, like a snake, and twist it around itself to make a round Challah. Place on an un-greased regular or nonstick cookie sheet and let the braided dough rise (covered with a towel) for another 1-2 hours. 'Paint' (as my girls call it) with 1 egg yolk and 1 teaspoon water mixed together. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. It may take a few tries to get this right; I know it took me a couple of times. Good luck and enjoy!!! |
